Tour Plan

1
Day 1: Arrival in Siem Reap (D)
You’ll be cordially greeted upon arrival and transferred to hotel for check-in and tour briefing. Time allowing, we’ll take an orientation tour of the city center to get acquainted with vibrant local lifestyle. This evening you’ll be honored guests at the Welcome Dinner with entertainment from Apsara dancers.
2
Day 2: Siem Reap (B)
Today we start exploring the wonders left by a highly complex civilization that controlled the greater part of Southeast Asia for four centuries. Enter the Great City of Angkor Thom through the South Gate and traverse to admire the temples of Baphoun and Phimeanakas, the Terraces of Elephant and Leper King, and especially the mysterious smiling Bayon. After a break we’ll visit the fascinating jungle-clad temple of Ta Prohm, Banteay Kdei as the Citadel of Chambers, the mountain temple of Takeo, the elegant Hindu temple of Thommanon, the badly ruined temple of Chau Say Thevoda, and the Royal Bath of Sras Srang. Hike up Phnom Bakheng to behold the magnificent sunset over the land of temples.
3
Day 3: Siem Reap (B)
We reserve the whole morning for Angkor Wat - a vast rambling complex of diverse temple structures, dating from the 9th to the 13th centuries. Many are adorned with exquisite carvings and bas-reliefs; some are so entwined with trees and vines that have almost returned to the jungle. Afternoon, we drive to Pour Krom and walk through this lovely village to see rural Khmer life. Experience an ox cart ride before a cruise on Tonle Sap Lake to see floating villages and get a taste of life ruled by monsoonal rains and water-based agriculture. One of the most productive bodies of fresh water in the world, Tonle Sap was classified as a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in 1997. Back in town, we’ll pay a visit to Les Artisan D’angkor, the Rebirth of Khmer Arts, or Senteur D’angkor, the realm of Khmer scents.
4
Day 4: Siem Reap – Kampong Thom (B)
Today we transfer along the NH 6 to Kampong Thom. En route we’ll visit some traditional villages. This afternoon we tour the Chenla capital at Sambor Prei Kuk, the most important pre-Angkorian site in Cambodia and the first major temple city in South-East Asia. Continue to Kompong Thom for the evening.
5
Day 5: Kampong Thom-Kampong Cham (B)
Transfer to Kratie and visit Sambok Mountain pagoda to see the Buddhist monasteries and enjoy the magnificent views of the surrounding countryside from the hilltop. Proceed to Kampong Cham and visit Phnom Pros (Male Hill) and Phnom Srei (Female Hill). The hills offer great views of the surrounding. Experience small-town life, surrounded by green paddy fields.
6
Day 6: Homestay at Rana (B, L, D)
Transfer to Rana, a village homestay just outside Kampong Cham, to experience traditional Khmer hospitality. Rana is a learning experience about rural life rather than a business. You’ll have a great time talking with Pol Pot survivors and learn about contemporary life while relaxing in a traditional cottage or private room. Afterwards we tour on foot around the village, interacting with people, to gain further knowledge about local life.
7
Day 7: Kampong Cham – Phnom Penh (B)
You’ll have time to say good bye to new friends in Rana before our transfer to Phnom Penh. In the capital city of Cambodia, we have an easy tour around the colonial quarter and a refreshing walk along the riverside Sisowath Boulevard.
8
Day 8: Phnom Penh (B)
After breakfast we go on a full day tour to see the most outstanding attractions of Phnom Penh. Wander throughout the serene Royal Palace with its spectacular Silver Pagoda. Delve deeper into Khmer history at the National Museum. Immerse in the vibrant local life at the Central Market housed in a distinctive domed Art Deco building, a labyrinth of stalls selling everything from CDs and DVDs to silks, crafts, jewelry and more. Confront the tragic history of Cambodia on a visit to the Tuol Sleng Museum, before paying respects to the thousands of Cambodians who died during the Pol Pot regime at the Killing Fields of Choeung Ek. Spot monkeys, and perhaps have your fortune told at the hilltop temple Wat Phnom. Mosey along Sisowath Quay at sunset and take the opportunity to see stalls selling fried cockroaches, spiders, crickets or grasshoppers or other culinary delights.
9
Day 9: Phnom Penh – Sihanoukville (B)
This morning we travel by road to Sihanoukville, across Kandal, Takeo, Kep and Kampot. En route we’ll have stops to visit an oil palm plantation in Kandal and taste boiled crabs in Kep. Early afternoon we arrive in Sihanoukville, settle in to a beach resort and relax.
10
Day 10-13: Sihanoukville (B)
Four days to spoil yourself and relax. Unwind on white sand beaches, search for monkeys in mangrove forests or snorkel around nearby islands.
11
Day 14: Sihanoukville - Phnom Penh -Departure (B)
Today we return to Phnom Penh for our departure flight.
