Day 1: Siem Reap – Kanpor Community
Leave the hustle and bustle of city life behind and travel through idyllic Cambodian countryside to the rural town of Kanpor. Stop for an authentic snack of bamboo sticky rice at Kchas village before onward travel. Upon arrival to the village, meet a locally born community guide who will offer a tour and introduction to the villagers providing lodgings for the night. The Kanpor community, along with Buffalo Tours, practices community-based tourism which is a sustainable model benefiting the whole community. Enjoy a traditional lunch made by the host family then take some time to relax and acclimatise to the surroundings. In the afternoon, take part in daily activities with the friendly locals such as planting rice crops, removing rice husks or feeding livestock. Next, head to the village school and interact with local children during an outdoor English class. The afternoon will give visitors an authentic slice of rural Cambodia before the chance to enjoy local food cooked by the host family.

Day 2: Kanpor Community – Chansar Secondary School
Enjoy breakfast with the host family before heading to Chansar Junior High school. Here, meet with a youth team and learn about the positive impact tourism is having on the school. Take part in a hands-on cultivation and farming session before preparing locally grown vegetables for the school canteen. Enjoy lunch with the pupils before an appreciation ceremony led by the children to thank visitors for coming. Say goodbye to the children and head back to the village for some time to relax before taking part in traditional local handicrafts with the villagers. Try out broom making, thatch weaving and palm leaf box weaving and discuss the process with the villagers who live this way of life. These local crafts are carried out in a traditional style and produce sturdy and attractive handicrafts that can be sold at local markets. Next, board an ox cart for a thrilling adventure the local way. Ride through fields, over streams and discover a hidden jungle temple, far from the bustling crowds of Angkor Wat. Have chance to explore and learn a little about the ancient Khmer Kingdom before heading back to the village for a sunset tour of the surrounding area. Enjoy a delicious, locally grown and prepared meal before settling down to watch the village elders play traditional instruments as part of a farewell party. Listen to the unusual music played with a Tro (a two-stringed fiddle) and Skor (drums) and enjoy a night in the company of the village residents.

Day 3: Chansar Secondary School – Koh Ker Temple & Beng Mealea Temple – Siem Reap
Enjoy a farewell breakfast with the local host family and experience a traditional monk’s blessing before heading to Koh Ker temple. This ancient, heavily forested structure dates back to the 10th century and is the perfect place for a little quiet exploration. Enjoy a picnic lunch in the heart of this remote location before departing for Siem Reap. En route, visit the beautiful “Lotus Pond” Hindu temple, Beng Mealea, which was built by King Suryavarman II in the 11th century before heading back to Siem Reap for the next adventure. A wonderful, local-life tour that will allow travellers the chance to really get to know the local community and rural Cambodian life.
