Tour Plan

1
Day 1: Arrival in Hanoi
Meeting & greeting at the airport upon your arrival and transfer to hotel for check-in and tour briefing. If time permits, we will take an orientation tour around the very center of Hanoi. This evening, we enjoy Welcome Dinner at a fine restaurant, an interesting introduction to Vietnam.

Day 2: Hanoi – Train to Lao Cai (B)
We begin our full day tour of Hanoi with a visit to the memorial complex to Ho Chi Minh to know his amazing life. Continue to the Single Pillar Pagoda and the Temple of Literature to gain understanding of the two driving forces in Vietnam culture. Afternoon we visit the Museum of Ethnology which exhibits a large collection of artifacts about the cultures of the 54 ethnic groups in the country. Next we enjoy a rickshaw ride through the lively Old Quarter, a series of 36 ancient streets where peddlers still trade the way they have done for centuries. The rickshaw tour ends up at Ma May Old House, an example of dwellings in the 19th century. Later we walk through the busy traffic to the water puppet theatre and enjoy a performance of the famed traditional art form created by village farmers around the Red River Delta region. Transfer to Hanoi Railway Station and board a train to Lao Cai. Spend the night in a soft-bedded cabin with air-conditioner.

Day 3: Lao Cai – Sapa (B, L)
Arriving at Lao Cai Station early morning, we’ll be greeted and transferred 40 km upland to Sapa. After breakfast we travel by car to Muong Hoa Valley and trek a meandering path through the villages of Lao Chai and Ta Van of the ethnic Black Hmong and Dzay people. Home visits are included to discover local life. Enjoy the picnic lunch on the way.  Return to town at the end of the day.

Day 4: Sapa – Hanoi (B, L)
We take a moderate hike up the Dragon Jaw Mount for a great view of Vietnam's highest mountain range, Fanxipan, filled with terraced rice paddies and deep valleys. Enjoy the incredible mountain vista and a show by ethnic minority musicians. Afterwards we pay a visit to the villages of Ma Tra and Ta Phin and take a light trek to experience life of the H’Mong and Red Dzao, the 2 largest ethnic groups in the area. You can already recognize them by their distinctive dressings. Later we transfer to Lao Cai and visit the border with gate to China. Take a night train back to Hanoi and stay overnight on train as before.    NOTE: Alternatively, you can opt to visit a hill tribe market. The hill tribe weekly markets are available on Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, or Saturday   After breakfast we depart Sapa and transfer to one of the hill tribe weekly markets (Bac Ha or Coc Ly or Cao Son or Lung Khau Nhin or Can Cau/Pha Long, or Bac Ha/Muong Khuong/Muong Hum) in the region, passing the beautiful mountainous road. At the colorful market, you’ll see different ethnic minorities. People attend the market for not only trading but also drinking, socializing … In the afternoon, visit a hill tribe village. Call at one or two families, say hello to local children and enjoy the nice view along the trails. Later we transfer to Lao Cai and tour the border gate to China before taking the night train back to Hanoi.

Day 5: Hanoi – Halong (B, L, D)
We’re back in Hanoi early this morning and transfer to a mini hotel for refreshment and breakfast. Afterwards we journey east through picturesque rice-farming villages of the Red River Delta to Halong Bay - Vietnam's greatest natural wonder. Explore this extraordinary piece of Vietnam from the comfort of a deluxe overnight cruise. Surreal seascape, interesting visits, mouth-watering seafood, exciting activities, and so on, all make it unforgettable.

Day 6: Halong -Hanoi - Hue (B, L)
Wake up to fresh coffee before cruising back to the shore. En route the junk weaves through strange-shaped rock formations that invite comparisons from fighting cocks to dragons and even further! After lunch we disembark and return to Hanoi for a flight to Hue, a former capitol of Vietnam.

Day 7: Hue (B, D)
This morning we cruise along the serene Perfume River to Thien Mu, the best known pagoda in Middle Vietnam. Next, we tour the ruins of the Imperial Citadel including the former royal residence, which is now a World Heritage. We also visit a beautiful garden house once belonging to the royalty and enjoy the refined atmosphere of the former capital city of Vietnam. In the afternoon we visit the impressive tomb of former Emperor Tu Duc, two villages crafting conical hats and incense, and Dong Ba Market. For a joyful day to be complete, a sample of Royal Dinner will be served in the evening.

Day 8: Hue - Danang - Hoian (B, L)
Today we depart Hue and travel southwards to Hoian. En route we unwind at the scenic Lang Co Beach and Ocean Clouds Pass, and visit the fascinating Cham Museum. After lunch in Danang we proceed to Hoian to explore this charming and wonderfully preserved merchant port town. Hoian still retains Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese and European influences from its flourishing old days. We will walk narrow colorful lanes, admire historic architectures, and browse the endless parade of shops for souvenirs.

Day 9: Hoian-My Son-Hoian (B)
We pay a morning visit to the capital and religious centre of the former Champa Kingdom, My Son. There in a lush green valley 40km southwest of Hoian, stands dozens of red brick towers and sanctuaries dating from between the 7th and 13th centuries. On the way back to Hoian, we visit Tra Kieu, formerly known as Simhapura or the Lion Citadel, the capital of Champa between the 4th and 8th centuries. Some of the finest sculpture in Danang's Cham Museum originated from here. Rest of the day will be at your own leisure.

Day 10: Hoian - Danang – Saigon (B)
We bid farewell to Hoian and transfer to Danang for a morning flight to Saigon. Meeting and greeting upon arrival and transfer to hotel. In the afternoon we explore the busy and interesting Dong Khoi area, admiring the Reunification Palace, the Notre Dame Cathedral, the colonial Post Office, the City Hall, the Opera House, Ben Thanh Market, etc.

Day 11: Saigon - Cu Chi Tunnels – Caodai Temple – Saigon (B, L)
We drive off the city to Tay Ninh to see the fussy edifice called Holy See Temple and watch the noon services of Caodai Sect, a most ridiculous religion in the world. After lunch we continue to Cu Chi and explore the amazing tunnel system built by guerrillas during the Vietnam War in the 19th century. Known as the “Iron Triangle” during the war of the 60’s, the story of Cu Chi is one of struggle, determination against all odds, and eventual victory. Now the tunnels are a major site of interest for tourists and historians, and those interested in Vietnam’s military history.

Day 12: Saigon -My Tho - Can Tho (B, L)
We journey to Mekong Delta, a world that lives and works on the waters. Arriving in My Tho, a prosperous town just 80 km from Saigon, we take a boat to an insular village to visit family workshops producing handicrafts and candy from coconut. Tasting seasonal tropical fruits in an exuberant orchard, we ride a horse cart to a typical Delta house and enjoy folk music by amateurs. Proceed by local sampan through the small canals and side arms of the river to further experience river life. For lunch we’ll sample regional specialties such as Elephant Ear Fish, Rice Ball, etc… After a pleasant break we travel to Can Tho where we take a spin around Ninh Kieu Quay – bustling and exciting with river life on Hau River.

Day 13: Can Tho –Chau Doc (B, L)
This morning we take a boat ride to Cai Rang, the largest and most interesting floating market on the complex of the waterways that comprise the Mekong Delta. Hundreds of boats packed with local produces gather and make for an exciting maze. Boats come to us from all sides, offering fruits, vegetables, plants, foods, etc… Sellers advertise their wares by hanging samples high atop bamboo poles so that their customers can find from afar. It is a great view of how commerce actually happens in the Mekong. The boat tour is capped off with a visit to an orchard and we continue overland to Chau Doc on the border with Cambodia. In Chau Doc, we’ll tour the complex of temples and pagodas on Sam Mountain and enjoy the breathtaking view of the plain at sunset.

Day 14: Chau Doc - Saigon (B, L)
We take a boat to a floating village where local people breed fish in cages for export. We also call in a village of Cham people and learn about this Vietnamese Islamic ethnic group. Next we continue to the Tinh Bien, the market by the border with Cambodia before returning to Saigon. A visit to Saigon's Chinese quarter, noted for Binh Tay market and Thien Hau pagoda before the

Day 15: Saigon – Departure (B)
